Most of us try to forget our birthdays and how many of them seem to pile up. Where do the years go? I guess when you pass a certain age, you can be proud of how many you have celebrated. I am not there yet, although my aching body might beg to differ! May we all celebrate many more of these special days. ~ Michael S. Pauley

Speaking of fireworks, I was pleased to see the yard signs available for veterans regarding said fireworks. The spectacle is beautiful, but the accompanying booms are not, especially for those of us who are combat vets. My lovely bride loves fireworks and the look on her face is like a child as she watches the displays. I have, over the years, grit my teeth and tried to be there for her during these celebrations. She understands that I do not enjoy them the way she does. We have found some pretty good solutions for us. We watch them from a distance, where she can enjoy the spectacle but the sound is not so close. Or we watch them on TV, since many celebrations around the nation are televised. Please be considerate of your neighbors, even is they do not have a sign in their yard. Our pets are also sensitive to the sound and might even run away if not contained in a safe space.
Our veterans are the reason we can enjoy this holiday, so thank them and have consideration for them. Enjoy your holiday! ~ Michael S. Pauley June 14 is the 240th birthday of the U.S. Army! Many events and celebrations will be taking place. Following is a link to help you find an event near you. Have a great weekend! ~ Michael S. Pauley
http://www.army.mil/birthday/ June 14 through July 4 are 'Honor America' days. June 14 is also the Birthday of the U.S. army. It is a time to proudly display our flag and all it represents. While no country or organization is perfect (as long as humans are involved, since none of us are perfect), here in America, we have made a pretty good effort to be the best we can be. We really do value individual freedom and liberty. We really do wish others around the globe could enjoy many of our freedoms and liberties, otherwise we would not bother to get involved. So let's celebrate that which makes our country great, which includes our armed forces. Let's wish our Army a Happy Birthday and thanks for helping us keep our freedoms and liberties. ~ Michael S. The Battle of Midway, D-Day, the 6 Day War. The list of conflicts that occurred on or around this time throughout history is almost endless. The weather has improved enough in most places to begin a campaign or expand one already begun. Wars of the past depended greatly on the weather. D-Day was one such conflict that was based in large part on weather predictions. With the D-Day anniversary tomorrow, June 6th, the remembrances, ceremonies, tours, etc, around the world are more numerous than we could ever hope to list here. What we can do is share some websites devoted to those who took part in the D-Day invasion, also known as Operation Overlord.
"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of Allied Expeditionary Force ! You are about to embark upon the Great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you... I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory !" Dwight D. Eisenhower American D-Day (http://americandday.org/) The Battle of Normandy (http://www.dday-overlord.com) D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery Portsmouth’s D-Day Museum is Britain’s only museum dedicated solely to covering all aspects of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. (http://www.ddaymuseum.co.uk/) While it might be a little late to head to France for the many tours and ceremonies, hopefully you can find an event near you to participate in the remembrances. ~Michael S. Pauley There will be a number of commemorations honoring the Battle of Midway over the next several days. There will be wreath-laying ceremonies and special programs at many different site.
