Hell is the Night The Second Gomer Wars is at the printers! Last report puts the books being available in 1-2 weeks. Words cannot convey my relief at being to this point, finally. Yet there is also a degree of trepidation, as an author never really feels like the book is ready. To quote some comedian from the past, "Here goes nothin'." ~Michael S. Pauley
Well, I've signed all the necessary paperwork to approve everything to get the book to the printer. The cover design is beautiful and striking. I am very much pleased with the looks of it. Hopefully Hell is the Night The Second Gomer Wars will be available in the next couple of weeks. We will also be up-dating the website to add links to vendors, like there are for the first book. Also up-dated/added will be the locales and Forces from Hell is the Night. I know there is a lot going on in the world right now, but I am taking pleasure in this accomplishment in my little corner. ~Michael S. Pauley
This is a big week around here. What with the final touches on the book and the World Series going on, everyone is running around like they've got one foot nailed to the floor. My lovely bride is tasked with doing a final read-through of the manuscript, but took the evening off to watch her Giants play. Needless to say, she was excited by their win. In the middle of all this, the youngest daughter decided to re-arrange her room, so we have boxes in the living room, a rack of clothes in the hallway and random bits of furniture being moved in and out of various rooms. And I still have a day job that is jam-packed this week! Here's to hoping we all survive it. ~Michael S. Pauley
Waiting in the e-mail at 6:00 a.m. - the proofs for the book! Guess what we'll be doing today. Once these are gone over and triple-checked, the book is ready for the printers. We are still hoping to have Book 2 out by the end of the month and will try to keep everyone up-dated. We are extremely excited as we are another step closer to sending this baby out into the world. ~Michael S. Pauley
In all the excitement and activity surrounding the book, we forgot to wish the US Navy a Happy Birthday!
For more information, along with many archival photos, visit the Navy History & Heritage Command website for the Navy's Birthday. (http://1.usa.gov/1qhtwMh) We are still plugging along in the process. Hope to have more news soon about a release date. ~Michael S. Pauley While I do not have an exact date yet, the manuscript is going to the publishers this week. There are still cover choices to finalize and some other small details to work out, but things are moving along and there should be some more concrete news soon. I know I am ready to send this baby off into the world. I can only hope you are as excited about its arrival! ~Michael S. Pauley
Getting this book out, like fighting ISIL, is going to be a longer campaign that I originally anticipated. I would like to say that I was completely taken by surprise, since MY intelligence people didn’t tell me that selecting fonts, type faces, covers, etc., was so serious, or that the publisher would fold so quickly on the tough ideas, thereby leaving me so exposed. Wait, too soon?!? Anyway, we’re working on it, and should have a tentative launch date by next week. In the meantime, I had no idea that the bottom of this bus was so damn messy. ~ Michael S. Pauley
You’ll notice that the postings are pretty short this week. I alluded to the reason in the Monday posting, but in case you missed it, we’re working pretty hard around here to shine the proverbial dog turd. (Actually, around our house it might better be described as a cat turd.) Things are improving, and for once, the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an oncoming train. Instead, it is probably that bus under which our national leadership loves to toss intelligence personnel. The book is coming, and once we can figure out the cover, etc., we’ll be closer to the actual launch of it. I promise we’ll keep you posted when the date is announced. ~ Michael S. Pauley
This week has been a series of short blog postings. First I want to apologize for their brevity. Not that it really is an excuse, but lately I’ve been up to my proverbial derriere in large amphibians, most of whom want to dine on my ever expanding rump. Secondly, let me say that believe it or not there is a “day job” involved here. I’ve noticed through the years that my loving family appears to have grown a small attachment to things like eating. Naturally this necessitates my having to work for a living. Then there are the everyday distractions, like trying to get the second book to the publisher, who apparently has my entire life on speed dial. Trust me, when these guys hound you, private time for things like the restroom become quite the premium. Then there are judges, other lawyers, and a multitude of other details that require your attention during any given nano-second. Meanwhile, somewhere there is a publicist, who wonders what you’ve been smoking when you wrote your blog posting or posted to your twitter. The other day for example, I wrote about the bags under my eyes doubling as coolers for the ball game. What I didn’t say is that sleep is for sissies, and I passed using them as coolers a long time ago. I think now I’ve got car covers going on here....... As a consequence of this glamorous lifestyle (yeah, I know, who the hell are we kidding), my postings will sometimes be short. Right now for example, I’ve got to answer a call and explain why I’ve not sent the manuscript yet. Okay, Okay..... I get it. ~ Michael S. Pauley
